Running Down The Clock

February is the last hurdle, the last month that doesn’t carry at least a hint of spring in its name. This is the one you grit your teeth over, the one that tests your resolve, the one that used to be a terror, back when we had real winters.

But maybe that’s just Kansas these days, the northeast got a couple of feet of snow last night. I really wouldn’t mind a foot of snow, but I don’t think it’s in the cards.

Symbolically speaking, Ground Hog Day is a national holiday. It is the only day that brings weather into the public consciousness . The first day of this season or that season is just about the divisions in the earths orbit, not about actual weather conditions.

Looks like a pretty serious cold snap is up for next week, winter flexing it’s muscle just a bit, letting us know its holding the real stuff back just in case we get cocky. I’m still not holding my breath. It won’t be long before winter’s just another skinny kid at the beach, getting summer’s sand kicked in his face.
